Don't Just Make A List

Don't Just Make A List

Out of the blue this week, a friend (and seasoned travel nurse) Lori Hyatt sent me a video through Facebook messenger. It was a Goalcast video, and honestly those can be hit and miss. But this one stopped me in my tracks. I watched it once. Then again. Then again. Fact is, this short 5 minute video has haunted me ever since I watched it. Like a song that gets stuck in your head, his words just won't go away.

So, I'm not moved to make a list. The easy, lazy answer is to say "I'm going to make a list now" knowing that you never really will. (It's the cool thing to say when you share the video on Facebook.) But...I am moved to make a few changes. The more I think about it, the more some things become clear. It's not about his list. It's about understanding the magic in every moment of every day. He needed that event to occur. While the death of his friend was tragic, it caused a chain reaction of positive events. Some fun, some whimsical, and some downright life changing. Like most all things in life, I'm sure we all can point back to one or two events and say, "that right there changed things". We've all had them, maybe some more dramatic than others. It's what you do with them that make the difference. Life happens fast, and unless you have a time machine, we aren't getting any younger. Identifying those events as they happen and acting on them in a positive way could unlock potential you never knew was there.

So, don't just make a list. Identify those events in your life where you were given an opportunity and use that to do something extraordinary. We all have it in us, no matter where you've come from or what you are doing now. Each day presents something new. Make things happen. Be bold. Challenge yourself. After watching that video (over and over), that's my take away. I can be better. I can make a difference. It's in all of us, it's just a matter of finding that spark, and making the most of it.
