Karma

Karma

Merriam-Websters Dictionary definition of Karma: noun. the force generated by a person's actions held in Hinduism and Buddhism to perpetuate transmigration and in its ethical consequences to determine the nature of the person's next existence

Urban Dictionary definition of Karma: Getting what you give - if you're mean, you get bad karma - bad things happen. If you're kindly & nice, you'll get good karma - good things will happen.

I really expected the Urban Dictionary definition to be funnier. Maybe it's more of a resource than a joke after all. It did give the more clear definition...not that any of us really needed it. We all know what karma is. One of my favorite movie quotes is so amazingly true, now more than ever: "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it." I understand this isn't the same context of that quote, but maybe that's why karma exists? Everyone walks their own path, but somehow we're all connected. If a person falls, we should reach out to help them up. Maybe they do the same for you. Maybe the path gets a little easier if you do it together?

Karma is most practical strategy in business too. Don't believe me? Look at companies that don't do things the right way. They are stuck in a never ending cycle of turmoil and turnover, eventually leading to their demise. Doing the right thing for the right reason is always the right answer. Not surprisingly, it's usually the easiest answer. Weird how that works out. Maybe the world ain't so bad after all...if you choose to do it right?
