Own the Process

Own the Process

I've said this many times in the past. The travel nursing industry and how you find a job has evolved. Internet mogul Gary Vaynerchuk recently said "we are living through a great generational shift" in how information is transmitted. Yet there seems to be remnants of our old world still lurking or trying to push through using new technology. Do any of these sound familiar...

Cold text messages Calls made simply because the recruiters company has call guidelines. Facebook PMs with jobs that don't interest you.

This doesn't have to be the world you live in. This is your career path, own it. You are in complete control of the entire process, from beginning to end. There is so much information out there, why not turn the process on its head? Don't wait for that phone call about the area of the country you want for your next contract. Choose three to five companies you've heard good things about and start researching.

1. What's really important to you? Is it important to them? (Pay, Family, Retirement, Health Insurance, etc) 2. Do they have favorable peer reviews online? Search social media groups like The Gypsy Nurse and Highway Hypodermics by the company name. What do others say about them? 3. How transparent is the recruiter? How transparent is the company? 4. Do they make you fill out a ton of paperwork before talking about open jobs or pay packages?

Add your own questions to this list as you work through the process. Only you know what is best for you. By the time it's over, you'll have a clear picture as to what you want and what companies fit your needs. That list should have narrowed to about two or three companies.

Now go own it. Call, text, or Facebook message those recruiters and introduce yourself. Explain the process in which you came to them. Starting off at this point will have a dramatically different effect. You own the process now.
