Most facilities require 1–2 years of recent CT experience, including competency in contrast administration, trauma imaging, and cross-sectional anatomy. Some hospitals—especially Level I trauma centers—may require additional experience with high-acuity or rapid-sequence protocols.

Travel CT Techs often earn $2,200 to $3,500 per week, depending on location, shift type, specialty experience, and demand. High-need or rapid-response contracts in states like California, Oregon, and New York may offer higher weekly pay.

Yes. CT Techs can select preferred states, but must hold the required state imaging license before starting. Some states—such as Texas, Arizona, and Colorado—offer faster processing times, allowing quicker start dates.

In most facilities, yes. Travel CT Techs are expected to perform IV contrast administration, monitor reactions, and follow facility-specific protocols. If a traveler does not perform injections, assignments may be limited to non-contrast or outpatient settings.

Facilities value strong skills in trauma imaging, multi-phase contrast studies, cardiac CT, and proficiency with multiple scanner vendors. Experience with PACS troubleshooting, dose optimization, and rapid throughput also makes candidates more competitive.
