The Atlas Life

The Atlas Life #30 - Thomas Piper, Traveling Nurse & Creator of Scrub Squad 1978

This episode of The Atlas Life is slightly different than our previous ones. Thomas Piper, founder and creator of Scrub Squad 1978, joined us in Vegas this year and got to experience his first ever zip line experience on Fremont Street. Learn more about his weight loss journey in today's episode of The Atlas Life.

Thomas Piper: Last year was a little rough because going zip lining with Alice, I get all the way to the top. They weigh you at the top. Apparently, you have to be less than 300 pounds. I was like 330, and then I had to do the walk of shame down past everybody, and walk to the end, and watch them zip line. So it was kind of rough. So I went on a journey, and that's where I got started trying to lose weight and I'm probably down 50 pounds right now. I lost like 75 overall to try to be able to do this this year. And my recruiter at Atlas, Hannah said that she was going to take me. And so I'm super excited and it'll be a fun time and I want to go on the high one.

Hannah: I met Thomas last year in Vegas at our zip lining event. Thomas was one of the first to be there. He got on the zip line and then got all the way up there and they wouldn't let him go. It was really a moment in his life where he just had to step back and say, "I've got to make some changes." And he came home from Vegas and he got to it. He joined a gym, he started living this different lifestyle and through that next year he really went on a journey that resulted in him getting stronger, losing 80 pounds so that he would be ready this year to go zip lining. And there was nothing more that I wanted to do then to make that happen. We set it up, he invited all of his friends and we went down and it was a great time.

Hannah: We're so happy that we could do that for him and I'm just proud of him. He really worked his butt off literally and metaphorically to make that happen. And for that he's a healthier person and now he got to check that zip lining off his list. In between Vegas last year and Vegas this year, our relationship has really grown. He was lucky enough to come to Omaha. And we're proud of his blog, his Facebook group, everything that he's doing with his life. He's just a great representation of what can happen when you put your head down and work hard, whether it's a goal like growing that Facebook group or a goal of getting stronger and healthier and living that life and the financial goals of what traveling can do for him and his family. It's all amazing and we're just happy to be a part of it.
