Job Description:

Join a newly opening high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a renowned academic medical center in Winston-Salem. This role offers the opportunity to work with complex cardiac patients, including those post-cardiac procedures, transplants, and vascular surgeries. You'll be performing advanced nursing skills such as managing Impella devices, caring for mechanically ventilated patients, and conducting wound care and dressing changes. The unit initially operates as a PCU with a transition to ICU by the end of the year, making it a unique chance to grow your skills in a transitioning environment. Expect to handle patients with heavy cardiac diagnoses like CHF, arrhythmias, and post-surgical recovery, often with a patient ratio of 1:3-4, shifting to 1:2-3 as the unit progresses. This role requires at least 2 years of ICU or PCU experience, particularly with cardiac patients, and familiarity with devices like Swanz-Ganz catheters and Impella. It's perfect for a nurse eager to bring their cardiac expertise into a challenging yet supportive setting, with excellent support staff including an RN, resource nurses, and 24/7 specialists.
