Job Description:

Work as a Surgical Medical Care Center MS RN on 12-hour day shifts in Evansville, Indiana, supporting a teaching hospital focused on a wide variety of post-surgical and procedural cases. This contract is 13 weeks with a bi-weekly orientation structure, offering guaranteed hours of 36 hours per week (with the option to request up to 48). You’ll rotate through float opportunities first within your skillset, including the Deaconess Newburgh (IN) campus (about 8 miles away) and, less frequently, the Deaconess Henderson (KY) campus (about 11 miles away), with up to 2 hours’ notice for cross-campus floating. Mid-shift floating may also occur within the same campus.

Your day-to-day will include direct responsibility for a range of surgical and related specialty needs, including post-surgical care following procedures such as Whipples, vascular care, pre/post heart caths (Fem./TR bands and no interventions), bariatric cases, ENT, podiatry, and open abdomen scenarios. You may also support care needs involving dementia/AMS, CIWA/detox protocols, fall risk management with frequent repositioning (including q2 hour turns), thyroid surgeries, and complex drainage/tube management.

The role emphasizes hands-on clinical work and critical thinking, including PIV insertion; chest tube and indwelling drain management; CBI; stable drips such as heparin/Lasix/Protonix; epidural management; ostomy care; blood product administration; tele interpretation; wound care (packing, wound vacs, dressing changes); and stables drips oversight. You may be asked to precept students and new hires, and the unit’s teamwork-driven culture includes regular celebrations (birthdays and national day events).
