If you venture out into the Chickamauga Battlefield at night you might see a pair of green eyes glowing in the darkness – following you. Is it a deer? Or is it something more sinister?
In Episode 58 of Healthcare Horrors, we dive into the chilling history of the US Army Post Hospital at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. This episode is cohosted by Atlas Allied Recruiter Jessica Vice, who grew up in the area and brought a treasure trove of eerie stories about the fort and its haunted past!
Fort Oglethorpe has deep roots in the American Civil War history. Originally established as a military training camp, it later became a key location for treating wounded soldiers. The Post Hospital, in particular, served as a place of both healing and heartbreak. The battlefield surrounding the fort adds another layer of unease.
Jessica shared spine-tingling tales of ghostly encounters from her, her mom, and her grandmother – all at the Post Hospital. Visitors and locals alike have reported hearing marching drums on the battlefield, screams, footsteps, and even seeing confederate soldiers wandering the grounds. One of the most famous legends involves a nurse who is said to still roam the hospital, but not to worry. Nurse Nora is looking out for people in the hospital and she might even offer you some lemonade.
Any war history buff should add Fort Oglethorpe, GA and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park to their list of places to visit. If you are into the paranormal – bonus!
Thank you, for sharing your stories with us, Jessica!
