Job Description:

Step into a Med Surg Intermediate Care travel role in Wausau, WI, supporting a 36-bed unit built around steady rhythm and fast-moving priorities. This assignment focuses on caring for stepdown/intermediate patients with an emphasis on ventilator and trach management, along with a mix of clinical needs such as sepsis, GI bleed, alcohol detox, trauma/orthopedic cases, TBI, spinal cord injury, and stroke. Expect heavy telemetry and frequent monitoring paired with ventilator/airway weaning workflow. One playful touch: it’s a unit where you’ll feel right at home if you like mastering “systems”—because the pace changes, but the process stays solid.

Shift structure is 12-hour nights, and float responsibilities apply as needed across inpatient units (typically to higher-acuity areas). You’ll complete guaranteed 36 hours per week, with guaranteed set hours except during holidays when the unit is closed. The assignment can include low census unbillable hours in hour increments (often in 4-hour blocks), and this is not treated as on-call. Weekend coverage is every other weekend, with every other holiday. Charting is EPIC preferred.

Minimum qualifications include a WI RN license, BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC), and 2+ years of experience—firmly requiring stepdown/intermediate/PCU background. ICU experience is preferred, trauma level II is preferred, and at least one prior travel assignment is required. Ventilator/trach experience is required.
