Job Description:

Step into a Registered Nurse role supporting Labor & Delivery as part of a travel contract in Whiteville, North Carolina. You’ll work nights on a unit built around antepartum, Labor & Delivery, and postpartum needs—handling everything from routine admissions to stabilizing and preparing patients for transport when required.

This assignment includes care for patients 35 weeks and greater delivering with occasional earlier deliveries, plus antepartum monitoring and postpartum support. Expect a mix of cases including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, multiples, cord prolapse, and diabetes; if insulin drips are required, patients may transfer out. You’ll also encounter Drug addiction/NAS babies (approximately 20–30% YTD). The Newborn Nursery RN attends all deliveries and is responsible for the neonate.

Your shift includes key competencies such as rule-out labor, Pitocin titration, and Magnesium Sulfate administration, along with management of gestational hypertension and postpartum hemorrhage. Labor RN responsibilities include staying with the labor area (labor RN will not circulate C-sections—OR delivers and handles recovery while you collect blood gas samples as needed). You’ll have support from CNAs (typically Monday–Friday), a charge nurse, and on-site resources including RT and in-house hospitalist coverage.

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN fetal monitoring, and NRP. Charting uses Cerner Community Works. Floating may occur to the postpartum unit, and orientation includes L&D training with a 3-day component dependent on experience.

Expect warm, humid days with occasional rain and mild evenings. Coastal influences can bring quick changes in conditions, but overall it’s a generally pleasant season for being outdoors between shifts.
