Job Description:

Join a free-standing acute inpatient behavioral health unit in Bangor, Maine, providing registered nursing support across both pediatric (ages 5–18) and adult (18+ geriatric) behavioral health populations. Admissions come from a contracted ER nearby and are medically cleared before transfer, so you’ll focus on therapeutic routines and structured care processes rather than complex lines, drains, or tubes.

This 12-hour night travel assignment features a shift structure built around thorough unit teamwork, including psych tech coverage and additional clinical support from nurse leadership, an NP available on site until 1600 and then on call overnight, and daily psychiatrist rounds with on-call coverage overnight. You’ll work with voluntary and involuntary admissions, help maintain a safe, supportive milieu (including seclusion rooms when necessary), and participate in medication administration and documentation.

What makes this role stand out: you’ll become part of a locked setting that is not correctional/inmate-based, support specialized programming (group sessions, community gardens, and pet therapy), and have structured de-escalation support. Experience with de-escalation and physical restraints is essential; chemical restraints are not used. There may also be an opportunity to function as Charge, though it’s not required.
