Job Description:

Join a pediatric and adult behavioral health team in a free-standing acute inpatient setting in Bangor, Maine. This travel contract is built around 12-hour day shifts and involves registered nurse work across both pediatric (ages 5–18) and adult/geriatric populations, including involuntary and voluntary admissions that begin after patients arrive from a contracted ER and are medically cleared.

In this role, you’ll support therapeutic programming and unit operations, including medication passes, documentation, and opportunities to run or assist with group sessions. Patient needs may include diagnoses such as eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and related conditions. Seclusion may be used when necessary, and physical restraint experience is required; chemical restraints are not used. You may also encounter medically cleared substance use/de-tox presentations on CIWA.

The assignment is unique in its split focus between pediatrics and adults—floating between units is expected, so comfort and willingness to work across both areas is essential. Charting is completed in Cerner and medication access is managed through Pyxis.

A first-time traveler can be considered. De-escalation is central to this position, with scenario-based training and MOAB education/training available on site, plus guidance during escalation events (including a designated code leader and post-event debriefing).
