Job Description:

Step into a rewarding travel healthcare contract at a 52-bed MedSurg unit in Wheeling, West Virginia, where you’ll provide skilled care for a wide mix of post-operative and medical cases. This assignment runs on 12-hour nights, with a shift structure of 1845–0715, plus weekend coverage every-other-weekend (Friday/Saturday for nights) and holidays worked into the rotation.

You’ll join a team built for smooth day-to-day operations, including a Charge Nurse who carries a full patient assignment supported by a Clinical Assistant (40 hours/week, half on-floor and half in the office). CNA coverage typically averages 4–6 per shift, with MedSurg staffing commonly operating around a 1:6–7 ratio (mostly 1:7). Expect standard MedSurg workflows using Sunrise EMR, with Charge Nurse/House Supervisor oversight and in-house support including IV Team and RT services.

What makes this role especially unique is the variety: orthopedic post-ops, basic neuro post-ops (including laminectomies, discectomies, and spinal fusions), and a range of medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and more. Hemodialysis is on the floor, and peritoneal dialysis experience is highly preferred. Typical medication and therapy needs may include heparin infusions and limited intermittent respiratory support (Bipap/CPAP/High Flow as needed), along with common IV support based on unit needs.

Certifications required: BLS. NIHSS is required. Some staff have ACLS, which would be a plus.
