Job Description:

This 13-week contract offers RN licensed professionals the opportunity to work in a busy medical-surgical unit of a hospital in Freeport, Illinois. You’ll be providing care during 12-hour night shifts, managing general postoperative recovery, and handling common diagnoses such as orthopedic, podiatry, diabetic, CHF, COPD, cellulitis, and postoperative surgical drains. The unit has a mix of telemonitoring and direct patient care, with nurse aides assisting under your supervision. The role involves working amidst three interconnected units—3 East, 3 North, and 2 North—where staff flexibility and adaptability are key. RNs are not required to titrate drips but will manage patients with ventilator support like BiPAP and Vapotherm. This assignment is ideal for experienced travel nurses comfortable with rapid pace and cross-unit float requirements. You will complete an orientation consisting of two 12-hour shifts before progressing independently, with some opportunities to float to ICU or Tele units within your scope. The schedule includes every other weekend and holiday rotation, with on-call duties for core staff, while agency travelers will not have call responsibilities. The hospital supports a professional dress code and offers a supportive environment with a dedicated charge nurse and nursing supervisor available 24/7.
