Job Description:

This 13-week contract places you on the Pulmonary & Observation unit in South Charleston, WV, where you'll work 12-hour day shifts. Your role involves managing adult and geriatric patients with respiratory diagnoses, medical conditions, and trachs—though not vented. You'll be expected to handle complex titratable drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Lasix, Dopamine, and Amiodarone, often reviewing and adjusting medication rates. The unit features monitor techs 24/7, with charge nurses who may ask you to step into a charge role, providing leadership and oversight during your shift. Expect to work closely with RTs for equipment like CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2, and collaborate with nurse aides to ensure patient needs are met. Cross-training opportunities exist for interested RNs to expand their skill set, including roles such as House Supervisor. This position provides a balanced mix of autonomy and teamwork in a supportive environment, with scheduled weekends and holiday rotations, as well as requirements to float within the hospital as needed. Solid color scrubs and specific dress codes apply to maintain professionalism. Orientation begins with hospital-wide training followed by several days of unit-specific onboarding and preceptor shadowing.
