Job Description:
Step into a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse contract in Bangor, Maine—busy, hands-on, and built around a goal of safe sleep practices for newborns. In this role, you’ll work 12-hour nights (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) as part of a Level III NICU-supported Newborn Nursery program, supporting care across labor rooms, triage, and mother-baby space that sits just next to Labor & Delivery within a locked, circular unit layout.
Expect an average of approximately 1,800 deliveries per year and daily scheduled events including C-sections, versions, and related procedures—often about four scheduled events daily. You’ll be responsible for core labor and delivery nursing duties such as titrating Pitocin, performing cervical exams, managing magnesium and insulin drips, assisting with epidural placement (CRNA support), and participating in key moments like shoulder dystocia response. You may also circulate for C-sections and/or receive the newborn in the OR as needed.
Newborn care is part of the workflow when the mother remains on the unit for continuous surveillance (including documentation of feeds and vitals and assessment for baby), while newborn testing is completed by Mother-Baby staff. The unit supports a rooming-in model for mother-baby and works with lactation resources, including pool lactation staff and additional CLCs/IBCLCs during labor room activity.
This assignment is for experienced L&D nurses only: at least 2 years in Labor & Delivery, and no first-time travelers. You must have completed at least one prior assignment at a comparable facility in size and acuity. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM, and MOAB.
Weather:
Expect cool, crisp conditions with a mix of cloudy skies and occasional rain, plus the possibility of early frost and brisk evenings typical of coastal New England. Pack layers and plan for changing conditions throughout the day.

- Acadia National Park day trip for scenic drives and coastal views
- Bangor Waterfront to stroll, grab local bites, and enjoy the river atmosphere
