Job Description:
Join us for a rewarding 13-week contract as a PICU RN in Anchorage, Alaska, working 12-hour night shifts. This role offers an exciting chance to be part of a specialized pediatric intensive care unit, where ventilated patients require close monitoring and tailored care. You'll work alongside skilled support staff including CNAs and a med clerk, with opportunities for orientation in PICU duties if you're newer to this specialty. The assignment provides guaranteed hours and a supportive environment for professionals committed to delivering exceptional pediatric care in a unique and enriching setting.
Weather:
The climate around this time is generally characterized by cool, crisp air with clear skies and occasional snow. The weather is typically brisk but manageable, making outdoor adventures a refreshing way to experience the natural beauty of Alaska.
Fun Things To Do:
- Wildlife viewing: Spot eagles, moose, and marine life in nearby nature reserves.
- Glacier cruise: Take a day trip to explore stunning glaciers and ice formations.
- Hiking adventure: Trek through scenic trails in Chugach State Park.
- Native culture tour: Experience local Alaska Native traditions and crafts.

Job Specifics:
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
Duration: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours per week, with scheduling to cover breaks and lunches, totaling 40 hours for OR staff.
This assignment requires an AK license or a Multistate License with proof of application, as Alaska license processing can take 10-12 weeks. Travelers may be checked off for PICU training, with potential orientation in this specialty, but primary responsibilities will focus on pediatric ICU care. The unit maintains a ratio of 1:4 for pediatric patients and 1:2 for PICU patients, with ventilated patients typically requiring 1:1 care. Support staff includes CNAs and a charge nurse who is usually not assigned patients. Culturally sensitive care towards the Native population is essential.
